She slipped the note under Loren’s door and went into the lounge to shoot pool. Just as she was sinking the eight ball, the investigating officers tramped through the lounge on their way to Mike’s office. The raging lieutenant waved Mike’s note to Loren like a flag.

“We’ve got you now, you little pervert. Now we have proof! All we have to do is match the type in this letter to your typewriter and you’re done.”

Mike laughed to herself as she racked the balls for a new game. The letters would only match if they could type with two fingers exactly as she had. She was a drummer and they had no way of knowing. Though her office door was closed, she could hear the clacking typewriter and rising voices. Eventually, the dejected officers filed out and marched through the lounge without a glance.

“Eight ball in the corner pocket,” Mike said.
